Overview & Highlights

Located in the heart of Bristol, Connecticut, Smetana Food Truck offers an exceptional taste of Eastern European cuisine delivered with an artisan’s touch. Operating from their cozy and inviting food truck at 99 Summer St, Chef Nick Valentina and his dedicated team serve up soulful, made-to-order dishes that transport you straight to the vibrant flavors of Central and Eastern Europe.

The cuisine here is deeply rooted in tradition yet elevated by thoughtful, seasonal ingredients and inventive pairings. Smetana’s signature dish, the Chicken Schnitzel Sandwich, is a perfect balance of textures and flavors—organic, free-range chicken breast fried golden and crispy, layered with tangy pickled vegetable slaw, a hint of fiery horseradish smetana, and the surprising sweetness of preserved cherries, all nestled in a soft brioche bun. Each bite is an artful interplay of savory, sour, and subtly sweet notes that dance on your palate.

Another standout, the Kielbasa Hot Dog, showcases heritage pork sausage topped with Real Pickles brand sauerkraut, black garlic-studded whole grain mustard, and a fluffy brioche bun, delivering a comforting yet sophisticated twist on an American classic.

For pierogi lovers, the Potato & Cheese Pierogi is unmissable—the delicate, housemade dumplings are generously stuffed with creamy potatoes and farmer’s cheese, caramelized onions adding a golden sweetness, served alongside cultured smetana and fresh apple for a refreshing contrast. Customer reviews repeatedly praise these pierogies as some of the best they've ever had, often highlighting the subtle yet satisfying crispy edge and the rich, handcrafted sour cream that elevates the experience further.

The menu also features vibrant sides and soups such as the deeply flavorful Red Borscht with Dumplings, a fermented beet and smoked plum broth accompanied by earthy porcini mushroom pelmini, and the bright, crisp Apple & Celery Root Salad, tossed with toasted walnuts and drizzled with a buckwheat honey-horseradish vinaigrette that delivers a fresh, layered crunch and slight heat.

Drinks complement the menu thoughtfully, featuring local artisan sodas, Liquid Death still or sparkling water, and a tangy, raw Beet Kvass from Real Pickles, offering a probiotic boost with bold, complex flavors.

The atmosphere around Smetana’s truck is warm and lively, with Chef Nick’s spirited personality adding a personal touch that resonates in every interaction. His kindness, attentiveness to dietary needs (including gluten-free accommodations), and passion for delivering authentic, heartfelt food has left lasting impressions on many repeat customers. Visitors often share stories of joyful family outings, seamless service, and meals that evoke both nostalgia and discovery.

Ate from their food truck at gastropark. Pierogies were amazing as was the homemade sour cream. The owner of the truck was very accommodating to my friend with Celiac so it is also gluten free friendly. Highly recommend !

This food truck opened in 2021 by Chef Nick Valentina. The type of food served is eastern European. The name Smetana is from a type of sour cream that is a traditional food from Central Asia, Central, Eastern, and Southeastern Europe. The food is cooked to order with quality ingredients. The menu changes with the seasons. I saw this food truck at Gastro Park in West Hartford. I decided to order a kielbasa hot dog ($12) which had sauerkraut, black garlic whole grain mustard, on a brioche bun. This was a superb! It tasted very fresh, I love the mustard, it added a nice flavor and texture when combined with the sauerkraut. I wanted to try out their pierogies, it sounded delicious but I wanted to get something else at another food truck. The portion was a little small for the price, that is the only constructive criticism. Overall, a great food truck with delicious food and friendly people.

Nick is full of life and super friendly. My wife and two kids went to the gastropark today to sample some goodies and were excited to see Smetana as we had a pleasant experience the last time. We both got the schnitzel sandwich with the pickled veg and preserved cherries which is always a slam dunk! The kids had the smoked cheddar hash brown and pierogis which have a subtle edge that is crispy combined with the traditional flavors you’d expect from a quality pierogi!

Easily the best pierogies I’ve ever had. While the summer corn pierogi is my personal favorite, you can’t go wrong with any of the seasonal or traditional offerings. Between the flavors and presentation it’s clear the folks at Smetana put a great deal of effort and heart into their food. And the smoked cheddar hashbrown? Wowzah!

We had dinner here while getting drinks At counterweight brewery. The food was amazing and the customer service was great. My wife and I agree that they had the best pierogis we have ever had. We are already planning on going back in a week or so.

Visited the food truck at Gastropark. It was delicious, I got the chicken schnitzel, amazing. The corn pierogis were delicious especially with the smoked sour cream. Regular pierogis also amazing. The cheese stuff hash brown, yum! Great service. I will definitely try again!

Excellent selection of foods and drinks to satisfy all of your desires. The pierogies were outstanding as well as the hot dog. This food truck makes its way around to various events and is well worth stopping at to support this business as well as eat their wonderful food. I highly suggest the pierogies.

Had the potato and caramelized onion pierogis and the chicken schnitzel sandwich and everything was delicious. Nick the owner was so nice! Greeted me with a smile and explained everything that came with the pierogis he made my entire day with his kindness honestly
